ARCHDALE FRIENDS MEETING
100 Year Anniversary Notes
The road in front of Archdale Friends Meeting was called, among other names, the “Turnpike to Trinity.” It was going by the State designated “Highway 62” in the 1950s when the post office was to be located in the strip of offices near Archdale School. A rule of the United States Post Office requires that the physical address must be on a named street, so long time Archdale Friends Meeting member, Hazel Coltrane Hancock named it Trindale Road.
From AFM minutes of July 12, 1989 – Maxine Grant brought to our attention the fact that COG (Council of Governments) has proposed that Trindale Road from Main Street to Archdale Road be changed from Trindale Road to Liberty Drive. She asked if Monthly Meeting would go on record as opposing the name change. This was approved. A letter is to be written to the City Council voicing our opposition to this change.
From AFM minutes of August 16, 1989 – It was announced that Archdale City Council did vote not to change the name of Trindale Road as proposed to them by COG.
